Society for Personality and Social Psychology's “Sexual Pleasure and Positivity" 2019 Pre-Conference

We invite you to submit proposals to and attend the 6th annual SPSP Sexuality Pre-Conference. It will be held February 7, 2019 in Portland, Oregon, prior to the annual meeting of the Society for Personality and Social Psychology. This year’s theme is “Sexual Pleasure and Positivity.” We selected this theme because, more often than not, sexuality research tends to adopt a risk-prevention perspective. We hope the presentations in this pre-conference will instead highlight the numerous ways that sex and sexuality enhance the human condition and benefit society. We invite proposals for…

  • individual talks (15-20 minute talks)

  • data blitz talks (5 minutes, 5 presentation slides)

  • posters

Persons at any career stage are eligible to submit proposals for all categories; however, we are especially keen to support the work of early career scholars. If you would like to present at the Sexuality Pre-Conference, please submit your proposal visit the submission portal on our webpage: http://meeting.spsp.org/preconferences/sexuality. You will be asked to provide the title, author information, presentation preferences, a 400-character brief description, and a 1200-character abstract. The portal is currently open and will close on October 31. Please note that all data must be collected prior to submission for empirical presentations.

For registration information and full pre-conference details please visit: http://meeting.spsp.org/preconferences/sexuality. We are pleased to announce that the pre-conference will feature three excellent keynote talks, including:

  • Dr. Lori Brotto, "Mindful Sex: The Science of Present-Moment, Nonjudgmental Pleasure"

  • Dr. Kristen Mark, “Benefits of Prioritizing Sexual Pleasure in Couple Relationships”

  • Dr. Richard Sprott, "The Invisible Gate: Experiences of Personal Growth and Well-Being in the Context of Kink/BDSM Sexuality"

Please note that registration is limited and available on a first-come, first-serve basis. While you are not required to join SPSP or to attend the SPSP main conference, we encourage you to attend the main conference and enjoy discounted registration rates when you register for both events together.

We hope you can join us for this exciting event!
