IASR is pleased to announce several travel awards to attend this year’s meeting in Portland, Maine! These have been generously sponsored by le Shaw and the American Institute for Bisexuality. Read below for details on each.
Awards Sponsored by le Shaw
Read on below for two new opportunities to support engagement in IASR’s 2025 Annual Meeting from le Shaw, the International Sexual Health and Wellness Research Institute! These grants are intended to help researchers offset financial barriers to attending the conference in Portland, Maine from June 23-26, 2025 and sharing their research in community with colleagues.
Two travel grants aim to address the financial barriers many sexuality and gender researchers face due to limited funding and/or uncertainty about future support. Each $750 award will help offset costs such as registration, accommodations, airfare, or other travel expenses.
To qualify for these awards, applicants must complete the following:
Submit an abstract (oral or poster) to IASR by the April 1 deadline
Fill out the application by April 1, 2025 to provide a brief (i.e., maximum of 250 words) statement about how the research that you intend to present at IASR relates to sexual health and wellness, sextech, or sex work
Applications are welcome from people at any career stage and from any country. Please note that these travel grants are meant to assist people who are receiving less than 50% of the cost to travel to IASR from other funding sources.
Please note that travel grants are contingent upon submission of a scientific presentation (i.e., symposium, brief communication, data blitz, or poster) that is judged to be of sufficient quality for acceptance at the conference. Travel grant applications will be reviewed and selections will be communicated in early April. Candidates who are notified of selection for a travel grant but do not submit to present their work at the conference will not receive funding. All travel grant funding will be provided via reimbursement of covered expenses via PayPal after the conference takes place.
These awards are designed to recognize outstanding contributions to sexual health and wellness research. This award highlights researchers who demonstrate that:
Their work has had a positive impact on research related to sexual health and wellness, sextech, or sex work.
Their work is focused on improving the sexual health and well-being of people—that is, it is translated into concrete actions that improve lives.
They are working to make their science more accessible to the public.
Two awards will be offered—one for an early career professional (i.e., within 6 years of post graduation) and one for a senior professional (i.e., someone 6 or more years post graduation). Each recipient will receive a $500 honorarium and a $750 travel stipend to attend the conference.
Applications are accepted online through April 1, 2025. Applicants will be asked to submit a one-page statement to IASR detailing how their research aligns with le Shaw’s and IASR's vision of strong science, collaboration, innovative methods in the fields of sex tech, sex work, or sexual health and wellness, and positive impact on our communities.
Please note that recipients of Sexual Health Innovation Awards must register for the Annual Meeting. We intend to notify winners by the end of April. Candidates who are notified of their selection but do not register for the meeting by May 10 will not receive funding. All award funding will be provided via reimbursement of covered expenses via PayPal after the conference takes place.
The American Institute of Bisexuality (AIB) has generally sponsored another six travel grants to support travel to this year’s IASR meeting for researchers whose work aims to improve the lives of people who identify as bisexual+. Each $500 award will help offset costs such as registration, accommodations, airfare, or other travel expenses.
